Blessings Available Just For the Asking

"You have not because you ask not." James 4:2-3

God’s “Blessings” Are Available To Believers

Just For The Asking (with right motives)

Definition of “blessing” - To bless in the biblical sense means to ask for or to impart God’s supernatural favor.

Key point: God loves us and wants us, as His children and heirs to His Kingdom, to be “blessed” more than we can imagine or even ask for. (Eph. 3:20)

Why? When we surrender our will to God’s will, it indicates we trust and depend on God as our loving Father to provide for and meet ALL of our needs. As we surrender, trust, depend, and ask in faith, He will bless us supernaturally and extravagantly so that He gets the glory (honor, and praise).

Special Points to Note:

· Often God wants us to be blessed and be made “sozo” (whole, complete, healed) more than we do. Usually, we do not have our blessings because we have not asked for them, according to God’s will.

· When God blesses us extravagantly, we should “wear our blessings well” and give God ALL the credit and glory and not take credit it for it ourselves. (quote from Joel Osteen)

· When we cry out for God’s blessing, we are seeking the wonderful unlimited goodness that only God has the power to know about and to give us. (quotes from book The Prayer of Jabez)

· When we seek God’s blessings as the ultimate value in life, we are throwing ourselves entirely into the river of His will, power and purposes for us.

· We must become wholly immersed in what God is trying to do in us, through us, and around us for His glory. (“Thy kingdom come, thy will be done on earth as it is in heaven.”)

· When we are moving in His direction and praying for exactly what God desires, suddenly the unlimited and unhindered forces of heaven can begin flow to accomplish God’s perfect will through us. We will be the first to notice as God’s favor, blessings and miracles (signs and wonders) begin to chase us down and overtake us. We will be amazed at God’s goodness!

Lessons from Scripture (God’s Holy Word)

Proverbs 10:22 The Lord’s blessing is our greatest wealth, all our work adds nothing to it.

1 Chronicles 4:9-10 (the prayer of Jabez is attributed to the writings of Ezra in about 425-400 BC)

9) Jabez was honorable above his brothers, …

10) Jabez cried out to the God of Israel saying:

Oh, that You would bless me indeed, (great big blessings)

and enlarge my borders (increase my sphere of influence for you),

that Your hand would be with me (guide me by your Holy Spirit),

and that you would keep me from evil so it might not harm me. (protect)

And God granted his request.

James 4:2-3 2) …You have not because you ask not, 3) or you do ask [God for them] and yet fail to receive because you ask with wrong purpose and evil, selfish motives. Your intention is [when you get what you desire] to spend it in sensual pleasure.

John 15:7 If you live in Me {abide vitally united to Me}, and My words remain in you and continue to live in your hearts, ask whatever you will, and it shall be done for you.
